Chrome doesn't work on my Mac: "this version of Google Chrome can't be used with this version of macOS"
Your Mac isn't broken: Google has stopped making Chrome for the macOS version it runs, and Apple no longer gives it a newer one.
(In Spanish on this Mac) This version of Google Chrome can't be used with this version of macOS. You have macOS 11.7.11 installed. This application requires macOS 13.0 or later.

What it means
Since Chrome 151 (late July 2026), Chrome needs macOS 13 Ventura or later. On a Mac with macOS 12 Monterey or older, Chrome stops updating and, if you download it again, it won't open. An outdated browser is the most exposed program on a computer, and more and more websites (banks, government, video) stop working properly with it.
Which Macs see it
| Mac | Newest macOS it takes | Chrome |
|---|---|---|
| 2012 MacBook Pro, Air, iMac and Mac mini | 10.15 Catalina | No updates for years |
| 2013 and 2014 MacBook Pro, Air and iMac | 11 Big Sur | No updates |
| 2014 Mac mini, 2015 MacBook Pro and Air, 2015 iMac | 12 Monterey | No updates since July 2026 |
What you can do
- Free, right now: use Firefox. It still works and updates on macOS 10.15 Catalina or later, so it covers every Mac in the table. It's the quickest fix if you only need to browse.
- Buy a new Mac: that's what Apple suggests. It works, but costs hundreds of euros for what yours can still do for browsing and office work.
- Install Linux on this Mac: it gets an up-to-date Chrome again (and the rest of the system), without throwing the computer away. How, below.
If you want to keep using this Mac with everything up to date
Linux is a free system that still gets updates on these Macs. With it you get up-to-date Chrome and Firefox, Office in the browser, LibreOffice and security patches again. The ResucitaTuMac Kit installs it for you with a wizard (in Spanish), without sending the Mac anywhere: you can keep macOS alongside and choose at power-on.
It's for Intel Macs from 2012 to 2015 and the 2017 MacBook Pro without Touch Bar. One-off payment of €24.99.
